ยท In my classroom I will respect each student and parents. One of my strategies that I will use for ELL students is that I will emphasize more on speaking English than I do on grammar. If a student is to pronounce a word with an accent, I will not correct them to say it the English way. One example is that if a student was to say, "Can I use of bathroom?" I will respond with "Yes, you may use the bathroom." This technique is much more effective because as long as they are speaking English, then they are improving. This will also help motivate them to participate in class and ask questions when they don't understand. Otherwise, they will just quietly sit and waste time trying to figure out what is going on.
Parents are vital to the success of students as well. I will try to understand what role the parents have and I will try to fill in the gaps. If a parent was to encourage their child to be aggressive because of their neighborhood then I will simply tell the child that, "When we are at school, we ask nicely." This will help limit the unnecessary confrontation between philosophies from parent vs teacher.
For special needs students, my strategy will depend on what their condition is. If it is a student who has Obsessive Compulsive Disorder then I can have the student write notes on the board as I am explaining to the class. This is one way how I can keep the student interested while at the same time educating without disrupting the class. Other special needs students will depend on IEPs and what is best for their education.
